This American Life

Being Memorial Day, I didn't work. I walked down to town weaving in and out of the dumbstruck tourists to acquire The Milepost. I took it to Bayview to sit and investigate the highways of the north and eat ice cream. For some reason they wanted to avoid me because my waitress disappeared and no one came to give me a skinny spoon for the bottom of my sundae. Before I left, a different waitress asked if I had work. Apparently, they need over 21 help. To round off my uneventful day, I'm listening to streamed This American Life programming.

Bon Voyage

Now that Matt has sailed off to the waters of the Puget Sound no one will come to my door and ask me what I'm making him for dinner. In Sitka only since the 8th, it is amazing how little time it takes for habits to form. Now who will tip me with lighters and bolts?

I'm not having any fun at all...

I didn't realize I was getting quite so much flack for my lack of posting. The comments were being emailed to a gmai account. Oops. This is all I can muster before I go to work though. Click on a picture and it will take you to more pictures on my flickr account.

Chalis de Mayo

From the perspective of a slotted wood chair on a Treasure Island beach with a decent cover band playing at the bar in the distance, I looked up at the stars through the haze. The waves pulsed on the reasonably warm night and I could almost call it peaceful.

The hunt for my fifty masks in their new homes is on. This is the first, Chalis.

39 cent stamp no more

I was an idiot and bought 39 cent stamps for my postcards. I was caught up in the postage price hike happening in a week and was distracted. For those of you that don't know, priority is now 41 cents, but you can get forever stamps. I'm waiting for the person to walk into the post office and purchase a lifetime supply of stamps sold now at the lowest rate. But now with the postcard project done, I don't have any other matters that need attention. My bike can't be picked up until Monday. However, I think Shane, Matt, Raven and I are going out for an authentic Floridian Cinco de Mayo on Treasure Island. I don't think the dogs are coming.

Florida Heat

Until now I hadn't been accosted by a horny Italian greyhound, Pickles, and an Australian shepherd puppy, Japonski. Shane from Raven's work came over and brought his dog to the zoo. They were so distracting that we never started the game of Fact or Crap. Instead we went to bed and put the futon cover in the wash.

Strip Mall Story

While there was a good chunk of time spent basking in the blow of the fan watching Larry the Cableguy: Health Inspector and the iPhone keynote from months go, I did accomplish a few things. I found out which bike shop will box up my bike. It happens to have a lounge attached. By the way liquor stores are all called "package" at least in Florida. I was a little confused when I crossed over the Florida border, but wasn't quite prepared to ask what kind of package it was. Matt and I gave the puppy a bath after it shat in its crate. I worked on laundry, attempting not to lose my socks and moved into the guest room previously inhabited by Chris and Jackie. Raven's family headed out today in a rental to visit a Tim. I rode out to the deadly interstate to the CVS to get pictures with words printed off. Part of what must make this such a disaster of a road is that it is just one long strip mall. You can drive for half an hour and not think you'd moved at all.

But before all of this took place, Raven left her parking brake on as she began her drive to work. She realized this, but her brakes overheated and went out. Matt went to get her and she left for work in the truck. So I followed Matt in "The Green Bean" some distance down the strip to Just Brakes for them to tell Matt that they are fine now. I didn't get lost and I got out of the house for a semi useful purpose.

Air Circulation

The air conditioning died a few days ago. My hair is suffering from the flattening/matting effects of humidity. Oh I do want to go home to Alaska. But, I am enjoying the zoo that Raven and Matt have accumulated in their short time in Florida. The birds have taken to me and while one likes to peck at my feet until I rub its neck, the other sits on the keyboard while I type working at my fingertips. Errands that need to be accomplished in the next week include finding a duffel that I can toss after I use it, printing postcard pictures, stamps, and boxing bike.

Now that the trip is over Matt and I decided to test out my security devices. The 95 decibel noise maker that I mistakenly let Matt have, does work. Raven may kill me. However, we decided to test the mace. It was expired and less than potent. We tried it on a bee and Matt ended up in the wind trail with no adverse affects.
